Woman found dead next to Lakeland church

Lakeland police officers are investigating the death of a woman who was found next to a downtown church.

According to Public Information Officer Jack Gillen, the body was found early Friday morning next to Massachusetts Avenue and Parker Street.

Right now, police are calling it a homicide and an investigation is ongoing. This is Lakeland's first murder of the year.
